Debit Card

We encourage claimants to opt for either the direct deposit or debit card payment methods that are approved by the State of Connecticut and the Labor Department.  We are not associated or affiliated with check cashing services, or any pre-paid debit card services. Click here for more information.

  • Debit Card is one of two benefit payment methods available at DOL.
  • UI benefit payments are electronically loaded onto a Debit Card, which is like an ATM card.
  • The Debit Card can be used to get cash from an ATM, bank, credit union or to make purchases anywhere the MasterCard® logo is displayed.
  • Fees and surcharges may apply, but can be avoided by reviewing the fee schedule and following the tips on how to avoid Debit Card fees.
  • To enroll online, use the Department of Labor’s secure website.
  • To use any of the menu options on our web based system you are now required to create an account.
  • Once you have created an account and logged in you will need to select/modify payment method and select the option for debit card.
  • Once you are approved for benefits, a Key Bank MasterCard® Debit Card will be mailed to your most recent address on file.
  • Debit Cards are valid for three years from the time they are issued.  For more specific information regarding Debit Card, click on FAQ’s.

Chatbot – Virtual Online Messaging
Available on the home age, or Key2Benefits FAQ page, the chatbot provides conversational search and answer capabilities. When asked a question, it gives the most appropriate answer based on content we have provided and learned artificial intelligence

Prepaid Card Status Search
With the input of basic, identifying information, the Key2Benefits Prepaid Card Status search provides any claimant who has filed on or after March 1, 2020 the status of their initial card enrollment with KeyBank.

Please note:  You must sign up for Debit Card online, using the Department of Labor’s secure website.  If no electronic payment method is actively chosen, the system will automatically default to Debit Card. You must create an account before you can select the Debit Card as your payment option. Below are instructions on how to create an account:

Note: When creating your account, it is important that you remember the answers to your security questions.  You will not be able to retrieve your User ID or password without them.  The answers must be entered exactly as they are created including any punctuation, spacing or abbreviations you may use.  Failure to enter the answers exactly as they are created may result in the inability to retrieve your User ID or password.  Click here to access the On-Line Claim System
