A Guide to Your Rights & Responsibilities When Claiming Unemployment Benefits in Connecticut
What If Your Eligibility For Benefits Is Questioned?

Once you have been determined initially eligible for benefits, your right to benefits in future weeks will not be terminated without a hearing and decision by an adjudicator.  Should a legitimate question be raised about your availability for work, your efforts to find work or whether you refused an offer or referral to suitable work, a hearing will be scheduled. You will be given notice of the issue to be decided, and you may have the hearing immediately, or within five working days if you want time to prepare.  If you refuse an offer of rehire from your former employer, that employer will be given notice and an opportunity to participate in the hearing.  Any decision affecting your right to benefits in any week may be appealed to the Employment Security Appeals Division.
