WOTC Group Specifics for Start Work Dates on or after November 22, 2011 and Before January 1, 2013

Vow To Hire Heroes Act  Extends the Veteran Receiving Food Stamps, Unemployed Veteran  and the Disabled Veteran
 


Veteran
- Any veteran certified as:

  • a member of a family receiving Food Stamps for at least a three-month period during the 12-month period ending on the hiring date (tax credit is up to a maximum of $2,400);

    Or
     
  • Entitled to compensation for a service-connected disability, and:
  1. having a hiring date which is not more than one year after having been discharged or released from active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States (Qualified first-year wages are capped at $12,000 for a tax credit up to a maximum of $4,800),

    Or
     
  2. having been unemployed for six months or more (whether or not consecutive)  during the one-year period ending on the date of hiring (tax credit is up to a maximum of $9,600).

Or - New target group established

Unemployed Veterans who are unemployed for at least 4 weeks with a qualified wages cap of $6,000 and a maximum tax credit of $2,400

Veterans unemployed for at least 6 months (verified with qualified wages cap of $14,000 and a maximum tax credit of $5,600.

**Note: the 5 year period ending on the hiring day requirement that was part of the Recovery Act unemployed veteran group was rescinded.**

Note:

Qualified “tax-exempt” (i.e. 501(c )) organizations can now participate by hiring qualified veterans and are now eligible to claim the WOTC.

The Vow to Hire Heroes Act does not extend any of the other (non-Veteran) WOTC target groups, which currently expire on December 31, 2011
