Employees At Wasley Products, Inc.
In Plainville Eligible For TAA And Alternative TAA Benefits
For immediate release
October 21, 2005
WETHERSFIELD, – Forty-five employees of Wasley
Products, Inc., of Plainville, have been certified as eligible to apply for
Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) and Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance (ATAA)
benefits, State Labor Commissioner Shaun B. Cashman said today.
Cashman said the Labor Department is mailing an
eligibility notice regarding the benefits to all affected employees and is
providing information on how to apply for benefits. He urged workers who do not
receive eligibility information to contact their nearest Labor Department
CTWorks Center for information and assistance.
The affected workers, who were certified on Sept. 30, 2005 produced custom
rubber molded products (such as bearing seals and blender clutches).
According to Cashman, affected employees who are, or
will be, totally or partially separated from employment on or after Sept. 16,
2004 and on or before Sept. 30, 2007, are eligible to apply for federal
assistance may include training and income support in the form of Trade
Readjustment Allowances, as well as job search and relocation allowances for
qualified workers who seek or obtain employment outside their normal commuting
areas. Participation in ATAA may be available as an alternative to some TAA
benefits, allowing older workers who accept reemployment at a lower wage to
receive a wage subsidy. In addition, health coverage tax credits may be
available to individuals eligible to receive TAA income support or ATAA wage
Those who need to apply for unemployment benefits are reminded
that initial claims are now taken over the telephone as part of Connecticut’s
"Dial to File" TeleBenefits system while continuing claims can be filed on the
agency’s Web site. Information can be found on the Department of Labor’s Web
