Employees At Information Service Group In Stamford Eligible For Trade Act Benefits

For immediate release
March 28, 2005

WETHERSFIELD, Approximately 20 or more employees of Information Service Group, a subsidiary of Bayer Corporate and Business Services, LLC, have been certified as eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) and Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance (ATAA) benefits, State Labor Commissioner Shaun B. Cashman said today.   Possibly up to 75 more employees may be eligible for these benefits.

Cashman said the Labor Department is mailing an eligibility notice regarding the benefits to all affected employees and is providing information on how to apply for benefits.  He urged workers who do not receive eligibility information to contact their nearest Labor Department CTWorks Center for information and assistance.

The affected workers, who were certified on Feb. 10, 2005, provided information technology services to support the production of various pharmaceutical products.

According to Cashman, affected employees who are, or will be, totally or partially separated from employment on or after Jan. 24, 2004 and on or before Feb. 10, 2007 are eligible to apply for federal benefits.

Available assistance may include training and income support in the form of Trade Readjustment Allowances, as well as job search and relocation allowances for qualified workers who seek or obtain employment outside their normal commuting areas.  Participation in ATAA may be available as an alternative to some TAA benefits, allowing older workers who accept reemployment at a lower wage to receive a wage subsidy.  In addition, health coverage tax credits may be available to individuals eligible to receive TAA income support or ATAA wage subsidies.

Those who need to apply for unemployment benefits are reminded that claims are now taken over the telephone as part of Connecticutís "Dial to File" TeleBenefits system. Information can be found on the Department of Laborís Web site at www.ct.gov/dol.
