Labor Department’s Benefit Payment Control Unit introduces Q&A email address

For immediate release
August 23, 2010

WETHERSFIELD, Residents and businesses wishing to contact the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Benefit Payment Control Unit about unemployment insurance overpayment issues can do so by phone or now, via email. The unit handles the prevention, detection and recovery of overpayments within the unemployment compensation program.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to improve our communication with the public, we have established a new email address – dol.bpcu@ct.gov -- to provide a direct link from the sender to the appropriate staff,” Acting Commissioner Linda Agnew  said. “Our goal is to provide the public and employers with an additional opportunity to contact the Connecticut Department of Labor about their concerns. With this new email address, individuals can now email questions about potential overpayment activity directly to us. We can also expedite the ‘tips’ we often receive that frequently lead to BPCU employees implementing overpayment investigations.”

The new email address, which is listed on the agency’s Web site located at www.ctdol.state.ct.us, also supplements the “fraud hotline” that the agency has operated for many years.

The fraud hotline can be reached by calling 1-800-894-3490.
