Media Advisory: Apprenticeship Awareness Day is March 23 at State Capitol

WETHERSFIELD - Legislative leaders, labor officials and community representatives will come together to pay tribute to the stateís apprenticeship training program during an Apprenticeship Awareness Day Breakfast taking place Tuesday, March 23 at the State Capitol in Hartford. 

Sponsored by the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Directors Committee of Connecticut, the event will run from 8 to 10 a.m. in Room 310, this yearís theme is Apprenticeship Ė Green With Energy

A photo exhibit and tabletop displays depicting many of the programís current participants and accomplishments will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lower Concourse, located between the State Capitol and the Legislative Office Building. The photos will remain on display the entire week.

Guest speakers will include Jack Guerrera, Program Manager for the Connecticut Department of Laborís Office of Apprenticeship; Chuck Appleby, chair of the State Plumbing Board and president of Appleby Plumbing and Heating of Old Saybrook; Jeremy Zeedyk, instructor for Green Tradesman Certification for Sheet Metal Workers Local 40; and Jamie Merloni, Director of Training for the New England Laborers Academy in Hopkinton, MA.

 

The apprenticeship system offers career opportunities in more than 400 trades, including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, heating and cooling. In Connecticut, more than 2,500 employers and labor/management committees employ approximately 6,500 apprentices in registered apprenticeship programs.
