CONN-OSHA Completes Outreach Series December 17 at Norwalk Inn & Conference Center

For immediate release
December 8, 2010

WETHERSFIELD – Employees with the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health will finish out their 2010 How Can We Help You? outreach seminar series on Dec. 17 with a session at the Norwalk Inn & Conference Center.

The free seminar, which begins with registration and a continental breakfast, will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the hotel, located at 99 East Avenue.

Intended for public officials, members of area boards of education, risk/loss control personnel, controllers, business and facility managers, members of safety committees at local companies and anyone having on-the-job OSHA-related responsibilities, the program has garnered positive responses, explains CONN-OSHA Safety Training Specialist Catherine Zinsser, who has facilitated the series of six seminars.

“The reaction to our earlier sessions has been excellent and the attendance quite good,” she notes. “Our goal is to meet one-on-one with employers throughout the state to better inform them of the many programs and services that CONN-OSHA can provide to them.

“Through our consultation program for example – a CONN-OSHA employee can provide an onsite visit to an employer’s worksite and make recommendations about ways they can better improve health and safety practices and procedures there – all at no cost. Under this program, no fines are imposed or violations assessed.” Zinsser added that CONN-OSHA also sponsors a number of informative workshops on such topics as recordkeeping and the lockout/tagout procedure throughout the year.

Earlier outreach seminars were held at the Waterbury Courtyard by Marriott on Nov. 3. The Omni Hotel in New Haven on Nov. 5, the Nathan Hale Inn in Storrs/Mansfield on Nov. 10, the Hilton Mystic on Nov. 17, and the Danbury Courtyard by Marriott on Nov. 19.
