Department’s Hamden CTWorks Center Offers Workshops for February

Connecticut Department of Labor employees in the agency’s Hamden CTWorks
Center will offer a variety of training and employment workshops during the
month of February to assist area residents with their career needs. The no-cost
workshops will be held in the office, located at 37 Marne Street.

This 9 a.m. to noon workshop details the various types of interviews, tips
for preparing for an interview, and how to handle those "tough questions"
that a potential employer might ask. Participants will also have the chance
to role play in the form of a mock interview.
for Beginners: Reservations are recommended for this 9 to 11 a.m.

Topics include hardware, software, and the operation process, including how
to start up and shut down the computer.
Strategies: This 9 a.m. to
noon workshop gives attendees an overview of job search strategies, as well

Designed to address the specific needs and challenges of job seekers over
the age of 40, this 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. workshop will provide attendees with
strategies to overcome age bias and successful techniques to land and keep
their next job.
Search: This workshop, scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., gives
participants an overview of job search strategies using the Internet, and
also provides information about the most helpful sites to visit.
In this 10 a.m. to noon workshop,
participants will discuss how to determine what kind of salary they should
be aiming for prior to an interview, and how to talk about the subject with
a potential employer.
Interviewing: This 9 a.m. to noon seminar covers telephone screening
and strategies for in-person interviews. Questions to ask employers, as well
as answers to tough questions are also explored. Participants will be able
to develop a script that has proven to be very successful. The workshop will
also look at the best way to close, and how to follow up on an interview.
Beginners: Reservations are
recommended for this 9 to 11 a.m. beginner’s course designed to familiarize

Networking: This workshop, which runs from 1 to 3 p.m., explains the
use of and safety in utilizing social networking sites for job seeking
purposes. Participants will learn to use Facebook and LinkedIn,
and will assist in developing appropriate pages and profiles.
