For immediate release
April 13, 2009

WETHERSFIELD, Russ Griswold of Master Lock and American Lock, will discuss the “Lockout/Tagout” procedure – which is recognized as the measures required to safeguard employees from the unexpected re-energization or startup of machinery during an April 21   Breakfast Roundtable Discussion Group meeting being sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CONN-OSHA).

Taking place at the agency’s Wethersfield Central Office, 200 Folly Brook Boulevard,
the session will run from 10 a.m. until noon and will also include a sample of the various types of devices available to users to ensure security at their companies.

“There are so many lockout/tagout products on the market these days – from rotating gate valve lockouts to pressurized valve lockouts and padlock leashes – that it’s hard to know which one is best to use,” explains CONN-OSHA Safety Training Specialist John Able who coordinates the breakfast series. ”Our April roundtable meeting will give participants the opportunity to learn everything there is to know about this subject and the best tools to safeguard a worker on the job. Our presenter will explain each device, enabling attendees to actually see the device on a valve or in position. He will also detail each safety function in depth, thus giving give attendees a better understanding of how a particular device interfaces with another one.”

Also continuing this month, Able adds, will be the discussion portion of the breakfast roundtable program. Time permitting, each person taking part will be able to submit a question for discussion and those in the room will be invited to share their opinion regarding the issue.

Admission to the roundtable is free, but pre-registration is required. To register or for additional information, please contact Able at (860) 263-6902, or via email at able.john@dol.gov.
