Labor Department Résumé Writers Assist at April 14 Hamden Chamber Expo

For immediate release
March 12, 2009

WETHERSFIELD,  Certified Professional Résumé Writers from the Connecticut Department of Labor will offer free critiques and provide visitors with advice during an April 14 Business & Community Expo being sponsored by the Hamden Chamber of Commerce, State Labor Commissioner Patricia H. Mayfield announced today. The Business & Community Expo will run from noon to 5 p.m. in Hamden High’s gymnasium, located at 2040 Dixwell Avenue.

Participating Labor Department employees are accredited by the Professional Association of Résumé Writers & Career Coaches, which is the career industry's leader in the development of strategic résumés. From noon to 4 p.m. they will join representatives from more than 125 area businesses expected to participate in the event.  Labor Department staff will also be at the Expo to provide attendees with reemployment materials to assist with job search or career changes.

“Our Certified Professional Résumé Writers have become a fixture at the Connecticut Department of Labor’s own spring and fall Connecticut Career Fairs which are held in locations throughout the state,” Mayfield explains. “At those events, they’ll often meet with several hundred visitors, working one-on-one with each individual with the goal of making a résumé look its best. Whether it be a first time résumé or an existing document, our résumé writers are able to share their expertise, offering suggestions and tips for maximizing the document to better ensure it sells the applicant’s skills and experience.”

No appointment is necessary to meet with a Certified Professional Résumé Writer. Those unable to attend the Expo, but interested in having their résumé reviewed, are welcome to contact their local CTWorks office to make an appointment with staff at that location.
