Connecticut Safety Society Members Conducting 19th Annual Stuffed Animal Drive

For immediate release
December 10, 2009

WETHERSFIELD, Looking to spread the warmth of the season to Hartford-area youngsters who might otherwise miss out on that aspect of the holiday's joy, members of the Connecticut Safety Society have launched their 2009 Stuffed Animal Drive.

Comprised of employees from the Connecticut Department of Labor's Safety and Health Division (CONN-OSHA), representatives from federal OSHA’s offices in Hartford and Bridgeport, and safety and health professionals from private industry, group members will be collecting toys for their 19th annual drive through Dec. 18.

"This has been a difficult and financially challenging time for many people in the Hartford area, so we’re hoping to make this year’s drive a little extra special,” explains Aaron Thompson of CONN-OSHA, a member of the Connecticut Safety Society’s Board of Directors and project chairperson. “Last year, we collected more than 100 toys, and it’s our hope that we can exceed that effort this time around.”

According to Thompson, individuals wishing to participate can drop off a new stuffed animal between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at CONN-OSHA’s Wethersfield office, located at 38 Wolcott Hill Road. Hartford Interval House staff will put collected toys into gift baskets for distribution to the youngsters, Thompson notes.

"We look forward to our Stuffed Animal Drive each year,” he said. “People are always great about opening up their hearts and wallets and making this a time to remember for so many boys and girls who might otherwise miss out.”

Those interested in contributing stuffed animals to the toy drive can contact Aaron Thompson at (860) 263-6927.
