June 4, 2008

WETHERSFIELD, The Department of Labor’s Connecticut Career Fair series travels to Fairfield County on June 11 for its fourth event that will take place at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Ave., in Fairfield.

In addition to the Connecticut Department of Labor, job fair sponsors include the WorkPlace, Inc. and Sacred Heart University.

According to State Labor Commissioner Patricia H. Mayfield, employers from more than 40 companies will be at the job and career fair from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m., and eager to talk with potential employees.

”Whether you’re hoping to make a career move or looking to get back into the workforce, you can to meet face-to-face with recruiters eager to hire in a variety of fields,” Mayfield noted. The June 11 event also provides companies with an excellent forum to fill job openings with highly qualified candidates, she added.

In addition to meeting with area employers, individuals can take advantage of the résumé services offered by the Connecticut Department of Labor. Certified Professional Résumé Writers from the agency will be at there, ready to review and critique résumés.  This service, offered at no charge, can cost hundreds of dollars when provided by a private company or employment establishment.

Mayfield notes that the Career Express, the agency’s mobile office will be onsite, and staffed with Labor Department employees who can assist with online applications and job searches, and answer questions about the many workforce services the Labor Department is able to provide.

Following the Fairfield event, the final job fair in the Connecticut Department of Labor’s spring series will be held June 17, from 12 noon to 4 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell.

Employers can visit or contact the agency’s Job Development Unit at (860) 263-6280 to register.  For individuals interested in attending, a list of participating employers and the positions they hope to fill can also be accessed online at
