Students: Dress Professionally and Head Out to College 2 Career Expo Nov. 6

For immediate release
November 3, 2008

WETHERSFIELD,– Students from Massachusetts and Connecticut attending state colleges and universities will stop by the Clarion Inn & Suites in East Windsor for the fifth annual College 2 Career Expo taking place Nov. 6. Sponsored by the Hartford Springfield Economic Partnership, the Connecticut Department of Labor, Future Works of Western Mass., and local colleges and universities, the event hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Hartford-Springfield area is home to more than 40,000 companies employing more than 750,000 individuals and has one of the highest concentrations of professional/technical workers in the country.

“Employers from the insurance industry to law enforcement are sending their human resources professionals to hire or to discuss co-op and internship opportunities. This is a prime opportunity for both students and business professionals to meet face-to-face in a positive, energetic environment,” notes Governor M. Jodi Rell.

“Students can benefit from some one-on-one advice from Labor Department staff about employment potential based on their majors, job market trends and the ‘hot jobs’ of the future,” notes Labor Commissioner Patricia Mayfield.  “It is also a great way to introduce themselves to company representatives and get a better idea about job prospects upon graduation,” she added.

Certified Professional Résumé Writers from the Connecticut Department of Labor will be on-hand to review and critique résumés, free of charge.  In addition, customer service professionals will be aboard the Career Express, the agency’s internet equipped, mobile career center, to lend their assistance and answer questions about agency programs and services.

Admission to the College 2 Career Expo is free for visitors. Directions to the Clarion Inn & Suites in East Windsor, as well as a complete listing of all attending employers can be found on the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Web site at www.ctjobfairs.com.
