October 28, 2008

WETHERSFIELD, The Connecticut Department of Labor’s temporary Torrington CTWorks Center will close at noon on Thursday, Oct. 30, and remain closed to the public on Friday, Oct. 31 to facilitate a move by employees into their new location at 685 Main Street. The renovated office will open for business at noon on Monday, Nov. 3.

“Since June, our customers have been visiting us at our temporary office in the Kmart Shopping Plaza,” noted State Labor Commissioner Patricia H. Mayfield. “Now, with renovations on our permanent site complete, including an updated computer lab, we will be moving two doors up to our new home.”

Along with the Labor Department, other organizations at the CTWorks Center include Family Services of Greater Waterbury, the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board, Inc., New Opportunities, Inc. and The Workforce Connection.

According to Mayfield, to facilitate the move as efficiently as possible, the temporary office will close at noon on Oct. 30 and remain closed all day on Oct. 31 to give staff from the agency’s Facilities Management and Information Technology units the opportunity to move computers, telephones, faxes and other office equipment into the new location.

The new Torrington CTWorks Center will continue to offer a wide variety of employment and career services to job seekers and employers, including job search assistance, résumé writing and critique services, skills assessments; interviewing tips, career transition workshops, videos, information about area job fairs and an online job bank. Employers can obtain recruitment assistance and information on tax credits, training programs and labor market information.

Telephones, faxes and Internet access for employment searches and email correspondence are also available with all services provided at no cost to customers. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
