Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that the state has been awarded a $637,400 federal grant to help workers from Quebecor World Northeast Graphics in North Haven who have lost their jobs.

These new funds will provide for job development and placement services for the workers.

“This is wonderful news because it will make it that much easier for the affected workers to train for new opportunities that will ultimately create a stronger economy for this state,” Governor Rell said.  “When Quebecor announced that it would close its printing plant by June 30, we knew it was imperative to help these individuals – many whom were long-time employees of the company.  We must be proactive in offering the best possible job assistance to our citizens when they suffer a job loss due to economic slowdowns or foreign competition.

“The employees at Quebecor are hard working individuals who want to find new jobs to support their families and our communities,” Governor Rell added.  “These funds will provide for swift and significant re-employment services for the employees of Quebecor.”

Quebecor employed workers in positions that range from press operators and bindery feeders to forklift operators, custodians, customer service representatives and clerical staff.

The grant is from the U.S. Department of Labor.
