October 16, 2008

WETHERSFIELD – More than 55 employers will be on hand at the Waterbury Holiday Inn on Oct. 20 to meet with area jobseekers that served in the Army, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, during Heroes 4Hire job and career fair.

The event runs from 11 to 3 p.m., and is sponsored by Connecticut Departments of Labor and Veterans Affairs and the Connecticut Military Department. This is the fourth job fair that the agencies have planned for veterans, and the first time it has been held in western Connecticut.

Participants include such employers as Bankers Life & Casualty, Danbury Hospital, Northeast Utilities, Quassy Amusement Park, Subway and United Illuminating. Companies are looking for candidates to fill openings in the managerial, professional, sales, administrative, production and related fields.

Résumé consultation and critique will be provided by the Connecticut Department of Labor’s team of Nationally Certified Professional Résumé Writers and agency employees will be stationed on board the Career Express -- the Labor Department’s mobile workforce center -- to offer career development guidance and assistance with online employment applications and Internet job searches.

The Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Social Services also will have mobile vans at the event, along with knowledgeable individuals to answer questions about veterans’ benefits, vocational rehabilitation, career counseling, educational options and entitlement programs, including health care services, eligibility, and assistance programs.

Admission to the job fair is free and there is no charge for any of the services. Directions to the Waterbury Holiday Inn, as well as a complete listing of attending employers and job openings, can be found on the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Web site at www.ctjobfairs.com.
