CONN-OSHA Roundtable Deals With Workplace Safety and Health Regulations

For immediate release
January 9, 2008

WETHERSFIELD, A Jan. 15 roundtable breakfast meeting hosted by the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CONN-OSHA) will focus on the important role employees can play in helping to ensure safety and health in the workplace. The event will take place in the agency's Central Office, located at 200 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.

The 90-minute session, to be held 8:15 to 9:45 a.m., will feature a presentation by Michael Petosa from the Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission. Petosa will talk about the establishment and administration of safety and health committees at work, and the positive impact employees can have by serving on safety and health committees and helping to ensure the safety of their co-workers.

“We will look closely at the regulations that cover Safety and Health Committees at Work Sites and explore why they were established and how they are administered,” noted John Able, CONN-OSHA Safety Training Specialist who coordinates the breakfast series.

“We will address such topics as committee membership and composition, duties and functions, and the training of committee members. Those involved with a safety and health committee at their workplace, or those who would like to establish a committee, will find this session very informative.”

Also continuing this month, Able added, will be the discussion portion of the program. Time permitting, each attendee will be asked to submit a question for discussion and everyone in the room will be invited to share their opinion regarding the issue.

Admission to the roundtable is free, but pre-registration is required. To register for the breakfast roundtable or for additional information, please contact Able at (860) 263-6902, or via email at
