For immediate release
August 20, 2007

WETHERSFIELD, The Connecticut Department of Labor’s Career Express will offer employment and career services during an Aug. 29 job fair sponsored by the West End Community Center in Hartford.

According to State Labor Commissioner Patricia H. Mayfield, the agency’s mobile workforce office will be onsite from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the community center’s headquarters at 461 Farmington Avenue.

Labor Department staff on board the vehicle will meet with customers, provide résumé critique, assist with online employment applications, offer tips about searching for a new job or advancing a present career, and provide information about employment and training programs.

Dubbed the “wheels that Work,” the Career Express is a specially designed Winnebago featuring the latest workforce and job skill development tools. The mobile office, which regularly visits schools, businesses and community organizations throughout the state, is equipped with eight high-tech computer workstations, an interior plasma TV with SMART board overlay for workshops, and a conference area where visitors can work with résumé writers, conduct job searches or meet with Labor Department staff.

“We urge anyone planning to attend the job fair to stop in and discover the many workforce services we have to offer,” Mayfield explains. “Career Express staff can also arrange an appointment for you at one of our local CTWorks Centers where you will be able to meet with a career counselor or participate in one of our many workshops, with topics ranging from basic computer skills to financial planning or interviewing skills.”

The Career Express team can be found at job fairs, career development events, schools, and other workshops, seminars and events across the state.
