WETHERSFIELD, June 12 – The upcoming school vacation season in Connecticut’s “Capital City” will be acknowledged during Saturday’s School’s Out 4 Summer Youth Jam 2007 festival taking place in Bushnell Park, and the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Career Express will be right there doing its part.

According to State Labor Commissioner Patricia H. Mayfield, the agency’s mobile career center will be located near the Bushnell Park Pavilion throughout the June 16 event – which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. – with Labor Department employees on board to offer job search assistance, career counseling and information about potential summer jobs.

Aimed at teens and adults living in the Hartford-area community, the free festival will feature food booths, plenty of entertainment and performances by area student musical groups.

Those performing will include students from the Classical Magnet School, the Fox Middle Drum Line, Jason and Company, and the Hartford Metro Youth Choir. Featured professional entertainers include Reggae artist Don Minett, Gospel artist “OMAR,” 2 Hot 2 Handle, the ICR XPERINCE and the Eastern University Gospel Choir.

“There will be a lot going on in Bushnell Park this Saturday and we hope that visitors to the School’s Out 4 Summer Youth Jam 2007 festival will make sure to visit our Career Express and check out the workforce services we can provide,” Mayfield explains. “The Career Express is on the road nearly every day, assisting job seekers, students and companies with their career and employment needs.”

The Career Express team can be found at job fairs, career development events, schools, community organizations and business across the state. Those interested in having the Career Express visit their company, community organization or school can contact Career Express Coordinator Sandy Mello at 860-263-6024 or at sandy.mello@ct.gov.
