Labor Department Announces Spring Job and Career Fair Series Schedule

For immediate release
March 15, 2007

WETHERSFIELD, The days are getting longer, the weather will soon turn warmer, and the Connecticut Department of Labor's ever-popular career and job fair series will once again work to match job seekers with area businesses.

Five job fairs make up the agency's spring calendar for 2007, according to State Labor Commissioner Patricia H. Mayfield.

"Our employees at the Department of Labor are dedicated to keeping Connecticut a great place to work and a great place to do business,” Mayfield noted, “and our job fairs are an excellent way to support and succeed at this effort.”

The first job fair in the series will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31 at Manchester Community College. Subsequent events will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 12 at the North Haven Holiday Inn; May 1 at the Norwich Holiday Inn; June 8 at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield; and concluding on June 19 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cromwell.

"Our Connecticut Career fair series has firmly established our agency’s reputation as the state's leading job fair organizer," Mayfield added. "This is the 12th year that the Labor Department -- in partnership with Connecticut colleges and universities, chambers of commerce and a number of community groups and organizations -- has sponsored these successful events. Since that time, our Connecticut Career Fairs have set the standard on the state's employment scene.”

If you're currently hiring or planning to hire in the near future, these events will offer you the best choice in recruitment,” notes John Tirinzonie, project director for the series. "Last year more than 500 employers participated in these events and found thousands of highly-skilled and educated candidates to fill openings within their company, with minimal expense and only a few hours of their time.”

Employers attending the job and career fairs have consistently given the Labor Department high marks, adds Tirinzonie, noting that employers have come to depend on the events as their number one choice for recruitment.

Companies can visit to register for the events or contact the agency’s Job Development Unit at (860) 263-6280.
