Connecticut Department of Labor Employees Conducting 17th Annual Holiday Toy Drive

For immediate release
November 23, 2007

WETHERSFIELD – Connecticut Department of Labor employees will once again pitch in to help the Salvation Army of Hartford with its holiday collection efforts by running their annual toy drive.

Coordinated by the agency’s Information Technology unit, the toy drive, now in its 17th year, will begin on Nov. 23 and continue through Dec. 13.

“We have been conducting our IT Toy Drive for 17 years now, and it is always gratifying to see the generosity of DOL employees who are so willing to reach out and help spread holiday cheer to young people,” State Labor Commissioner Patricia H. Mayfield explains. “Our employees have always come through to help ensure that these children enjoy this special time of the year.”

According to Mayfield, employees are collecting unwrapped toys for children ranging from birth to age 12. This year, toys are most needed for youngsters in the 9 to 12 year old age bracket.

Labor Department employees also have the option of making a monetary contribution to the drive, Commissioner Mayfield points out.

Members of the IT Toy Drive Committee will then donate the money collected and provide it to the Salvation Army for the purchase of additional gifts for the yearly drive.
