January Workshops

WETHERSFIELD, Connecticut Department of Labor employees in the agency’s Danbury CTWorks Center are offering a variety of training and employment workshops to assist area residents with their career needs during January. Workshops will be held at the Danbury CTWorks Center, located at 152 West Street. There is no charge to participants. Additional information can be obtained by calling the office at (203) 797-4144. Workshops will include:
January 2
Danbury Job Networking Club: This workshop begins at 9 p.m. It is a
professional level-networking group designed to assist the job seeker to connect
to sources of information and create market exposure. Be prepared to contribute
to the group. A speaker is scheduled
Resume Clinic: This critique, which will be offered at 3 p.m., requires you to bring a hard copy of your résumé since the session involves a 10-minute individual review. Résumé professionals will check the style, format, content, grammar and spelling of your résumé.
January 3
Job Search Strategies Workshop: This workshop is a must for those
who want to conduct a successful job search. Marketplace research and tips for
determining where the jobs can be found are included in this three-hour session
that begins at 9 a.m.
Info Session for Newcomers: This 2 1/2-hour information session, a pre-requisite for all other workshops, will provide an orientation to the Career Resource Center and an overview of the many job search resources available to those looking for employment. The session will include information on available training opportunities and an introduction to using state labor market information to assist with a job search. The workshop begins at 9:30 a.m.
January 8
Transferable Skills Assessment: This workshop will help you to identify
the various skills that can be brought to the workplace. The 9 a.m. session will
explore how you can take your current skills and bring them to a new job or
career.

Résumé Basics (and Beyond): At this 9 a.m. workshop, a Certified
Professional Résumé Writer will teach you the résumé writing techniques you need
to get that interview. If you’ve never written a résumé or if your present one
is not getting you interviews -- you need this!

Over 40 & Looking for Work: If you think your age is an issue in
finding a job, then you need this 9 a.m. workshop. It includes information on
what the older worker needs to know when conducting a job search in today’s
market.
January 22
Networking Skills and the Hidden Job Market: This 2 1/2-hour
workshop begins at 9 a.m. and will help participants learn some of the most
effective methods of the job hunt. It includes discussion, video and handouts.
Learn the best ways to establish contacts with people who can help you to secure
a new job or change your career path. This workshop begins at 9 a.m.

Interviewing Techniques: In this 9 a.m. workshop, learn how to manage
what most job seekers consider the most stressful part of the job search.
Danbury CTWorks certified career professionals walk attendees through the
steps they need to win them their next job. This session includes a discussion
period, Q & A, and salary negotiation. The workshop includes a video
presentation and handouts are provided.
