Job Search Allowances

A TAA job search allowance may be payable to an eligible worker to cover expenses incurred while seeking employment outside the worker’s commuting area.  Only travel within the United States is authorized.  The application must be filed before beginning a job search outside the commuting area.  A TAA counselor in a local American Job Center will help the worker apply.

There are time limits for filing applications for job search allowance.  The worker must file within 365 days after the date of the applicable Trade Act certification or 365 days after the date of his or her last total qualifying separation (whichever is later), or within 182 days after completing TAA-approved training.
