Direct Deposit
We encourage claimants to opt for either the direct deposit card or
debit card payment methods that are approved by the State of
Connecticut and the Labor Department.

Direct Deposit is safer.

Direct Deposit is free. There is no fee for using the
electronic transfer system.
If you do not already have a checking or savings account and
need to open one to use the Direct Deposit payment method, a
list of Connecticut bank and credit union locations can be
found at the
Department of Banking Internet site.
Several Connecticut banks and credit unions may offer
no-cost checking.
To sign up for Direct Deposit, you must enroll online.
You CANNOT sign up for Direct Deposit by phone.
Using the Department of Labor’s secure website you must
click on the SELECT/MODIFY PAYMENT METHOD option from the
Unemployment Insurance Welcome Screen. You will be required
to enter your Social Security Number and your four-digit
personal identification number (PIN) and then be asked to
provide and verify the account number of your savings or
checking account, and routing number. For

Please note:
Call Center representatives cannot sign people up for Direct
Deposit – it must be done online, using the Department of
Labor’s secure website.
If no electronic payment method is actively chosen, the system will
automatically default to Debit Card. You must create an account
before you can select Direct Deposit as your payment option.

When creating your account, it is important that you remember
the answers to your security questions. You will not be able to
retrieve your User ID or password without them. The answers
must be entered exactly as they are created including any
punctuation, spacing or abbreviations you may use. Failure to
enter the answers exactly as they are created may result in the
inability to retrieve your User ID or password.
